Sicily is the home of everything: from nature to gifts. Even Christmas gifts. This year, unfortunately, Christmas will be different and very sad, on many aspects. The end of the year is arriving after an awful 2020 which left us fully appalled and helpless.

The travel industry collapsed and we don’t know when it will recover. The age of the social distance has become customary from the past March onwards and Christmas holidays won’t be different under this point of view, because there is still the obligation to wear face masks and keep a security distance from other people.

However, as said, this Christmas will be different for the way we’ll face it: maybe alone, for the most of the cases, or only along with the family members who already live with us. But, Covid-19 or not, Christmas is arriving as every year, with all its load of hope and the current (and natural) fear.

We mustn’t forget our grief, all the deaths, but we can afford us a kind of relieve, only for Christmas, at least, to not fall into depression and not jeopardize and weaken our immune system. That is why I dedicated my new post to Christmas gifts made in Sicily.

A gift is forever, as a popular Italian advertising says, but this year, a gift is also to never forget our loved ones. Even though we are unable to see them, we can send them a small gift.

In these challenging times, a small gesture can warm our soul. A gift made in Sicily can do much more. It can bring my beloved island to your home even if you are prevented from visiting it because of the pandemic.

Beware: I am not doing a speculation on this global tragedy, I am only trying to comfort your heart, especially if you have been forced to live away from Sicily in your lifetime or if this year you can’t visit it for the reason mentioned above.

I think that a gift made in Sicily is the best way to feel Sicily near you and have a small glimpse of consolation in the middle of a big sorrow.

In this blog, I already discussed about dozens of products made in my island: from the traditional Sicilian coffa bag, to artisanal jewels and up to the iconic Sicilian coppola. I already talked about how to find Sicilian souvenirs online. I wrote about the history of the Sicilian ceramics and the one of Sicilian lemons, my words also went through the charming topic of the Sicilian fashion.

Hence, if you want to spend your Christmas time on this website, you’ll find tons of ideas to buy your favorite gift made in Sicily.

With your purchase, you’ll also help Sicilian artisans keep up their work. Restrictions and closure of local Sicilian shops have completely swept away the entire artisanal industry. And so, if in the past decades, Sicilian artisans died for the Mafia, today they are dying for the Covid-19 economic crisis.

In this article, I won’t discuss about the products I already presented in previous posts. I only will show you Christmas gifts made in Sicily, which contain a message, a meaning, or a piece of the history of my island. If you are ready to buy them, browse the following list.

Sicilian Necklace

This necklace contains all the passion of a true Sicilian artisan: Gessica Giangrasso. She lives in Nicosia, in the silent and green province of Enna, in Sicily and I already mentioned her in my previous posts.

Her creations, are, hence, 100% made in Sicily. The gift you see in the image is a necklace with long chain with pendant in decorated wood depicting Sicily. The length is 40 cms, but it is customizable.

The style is minimalist with lobster clasp closure. The decorations are hand painted and the entire bijoux is handmade. Gessica’s creations are for those who love wear Sicily. You can choose your favorite colors and decorations on her online shop.

Sicilian Face Mask

This face mask is to remind us we must protect our health and life, but even to give us the pleasure to do it with a charming style.

This face mask is always made by a Sicilian artisan who has an original Sicilian nickname: Fimminazza (wild female). I mentioned her in previous articles about Sicilian products. Her true name is Francesca. She lives in the small village of San Michele di Ganzaria, in Noto Valley, Sicily.

She sells bags and accessories handmade. Indeed, her slogan is Handmade Sicilian Style. The Face mask is in cotton with three protective layers and printed Sicilian themes, such as lemons. I remind you that cotton with three layers is a protective fabric and can be used to protect us from Covid-19.

Due to pandemic, the delivery is blocked in Australia and the delivery time to the United States may be longer. You can order this Sicilian face mask on her online shop.

If you want to choose other Sicilian themed face masks made by Francesca or other accessories of hers, you can check here.

Sicilian Earrings

These handmade earrings are always made by a Sicilian artisan. He is Matteo Libertino and lives in Piazza Armerina, the wonderful town of The Roman Villa del Casale. Matteo creates Sicilian themed silver jewels.

He describes his creations so way: “My jewels speak of my island. They bring the scent of citrus fruits, the warmth of the sun's rays, the saltiness of the sea, the yellow of the wheat, the legends, the stories, and the traditions of my Sicily, but they also speak of passions that surely are yours too”.

To buy the jewels of this creative Sicilian artisan, visit his online shop.

Pillowcases, Tablecloths, Christmas Decorations, Ties and Much More

The products of this list are always made in Sicily, handcrafted by a Sicilian artisan living in Agrigento. The artisan is a girl who called her shop Giacallon.

Her slogan is simply: Authentic Handmade. She crafts pillowcases, tablecloths, Christmas decorations, ties, bread boxes and other home-décor items with Sicilian themes and the authentic Sicilian creativity.

To buy them and decorate your home for Christmas or for other events and occasions, such as Saint Valentine, visit the online shop.

If you look for different Christmas gifts or ideas, click this online market. On this latest market, the gifts have Sicilian themes, but the sellers may not all be Sicilians.

Conclusion

The obvious conclusion of this roundup of Christmas gifts made in Sicily is only my wishes for a better 2021. I cherish the hope this 2020 remains only a pale remembrance and nothing more. However, we must live our present, a gift is only a sweet way to forget a tragedy for a while and forever remember our beloved Sicily. Have a good life and stay safe!
