Here is a book that begins like a fairy tale, continues like a fiction and falls suddenly in the real life, or rather, in the most awful event in the world history: the attack of 9/11. We are speaking about The Rainbow in the Room, a fiction –fantasy book written by Vince Nolan, an American author with a great experience in the field of writing. The book shows the passion of his author for fantasy literature, but unlike other authors, Nolan, as a wizard, or rather, as an illusionist, has been able to pull a rabbit out of a top hat. Setting aside other considerations, The Rainbow in the Room is the story of a man gifted of a strange power, a power that can change the destiny of people. This man is Adam Montgomery, an apparently normal man who is charged of patriotic inactivity by a particular Subcommittee at the United States Senate. The Subcommittee Chairman is Senator Charles Wright, who lost his beloved pregnant wife during the attack of 9/11. This second influential character accused Adam to not have used his power to save people during the tragedy happened in U.S. in September of 2001. But which is the power of Adam Montgomery? This good guy has the power to play rhymes that make it appear and disappear people, pets and objects and allow to travel into time. The main accuser of Adam is Senator Charles Wright, who investigated for long about the life of this man and discovered he was adopted by an American couple who found out these same powers during the childhood of the boy. During his testimony, Adam admits that during 9/11 he travelled into time because he loves seeing the theatres of 1950s. The secret desire of the Senator is indeed to force Adam Montgomery to bring his own wife back to life. The vicissitudes told in this book induce to reflect about the fate and the limits of human beings and to wonder up to which point is fair to change destiny and erase all evil that happens every day in our life. The story of Adam Montgomery is also the life of a man who is strongly committed to serve and save the entire human race, but as all men, even Adam has his limits and weaknesses. He can’t be in the past and in the present at the same time and he can’t foresee a terrorist attack. In the background of the book, another fascinating character stands, that is Diana White, the beautiful and seductive daughter of General Lawrence White, also died during the attack of 9/11 on the Pentagon. As Adam, Diane is an orphan and was raised by her father. Perhaps, this solitude has turned the woman into a sex addicted person, like one who has sex with every man she meets, even with the groundkeeper of the cemetery where her mother was buried! Diane is the perfect character who can challenge Adam, he is fascinating, attractive, manipulating. She is also a member of the audience which is witnessing the trial against Adam. The author defines this woman as a modern Mata Hari for the role who she has in Washington D.C. And so, intrigue, conspiracies, magic rhymes, hard impact with reality are the main ingredients of this overwhelming and compelling book. Descriptions of the facts happened on 9/11 are a great example of journalism, some scenes are unforgettable and moving: daze, horror, pain, buildings crumbled on the ground, cries, smoke… When we said the author has been as an illusionist, it is because he has been capable to meld fantasy and real life in a masterly way. The Rainbow in the Room involves step by step and leads to a growing of feelings that make this reading impossible to leave. The Rainbow in the Room is available on Amazon!
