Yesterday, Google remembered the 165°

anniversary of Bram Stoker’s birth, the father and genial creator of Dracula. About Stoker, anything has been said and hence I believe that it is right to talk about vampires stories but related to other authors. In this post I want to review a recent bestseller of Ann Rice, famous author of ”Interview with the Vampire”, a great successful book which became a movie with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Blackwood Farm (The Vampire Chronicles, No. 8)

published in 2002, tells a fantastic story at half between ghosts and vampires.   When I read this book I felt that it also was an emotional love story, where erotic passion and sexual initiation enrich the story of Quinn Blackwood, a brilliant young man haunted since of birth by a terrible and mysterious ghost, a spirit called Goblin. The book character lives in a big house with white columns, spacius dining rooms and sun-drenched gardens. In this sometime happy and sad world Quinn is vampirized by Goblin and gains an undesired immortality. He can live an eternal life, but cannot love his beloved Mona, beautiful and seriously ill girl. Quinn’s life is made of dreams and contacts with spirits and dead relatives, in a circle of visions that bring Quinn to seek the vampire Lestat and discover an painful truth: Goblin is the spirit of twin brother who died at the moment of their birth. Quinn’s mother considers him the cause of the brother death, by denying him care and attentions. All this and many other is told in 626 pages published by The Random House Publishing Group, placed in New York and simultaneously in Toronto. In this book Anne Rice gives us a new story of vampires by following her excellent style of writing, but Blackwood Farm is much more: a great story made of vampires, spirits, a little horror and much feeling. I invite you to read this book soon. Advised! Source image: Simania.co.il
