What are the best books of 2019? Rather, what are the best books I read and reviewed last year? Read this post to discover it, because you are just landed on the article of Advicesbooks Prize. The prize relates to the best books I read and reviewed in the previous year. I read tons of books every year, but this year, I am absolutely sure about the best books I read in 2019. They are two: one written by a traditionally published author and another one written by a self-published author. Well, the best books I read in 2019 are:
The Painted Bridge, by Wendy Wallace and The Certain Hope by E. C. Jackson.
Those are two fiction books written by women and with unforgettable female characters.
The Painted Bridge is the poignant story of a woman who tempted to save sailors from a shipwreck and who is interned by her husband in an asylum during the kingdom of Queen Victoria, an age where women were denied every human right. The detail which made this novel poignant and internationally translated is the fact that the husband is a vindictive and malevolent priest! The staying in the asylum will be for the woman the most unfair and painful time of her life in the desperate quest to prove that she is not crazy. Read my book review here.
The Certain Hope by E. C. Jackson is instead a well written novel with a burning topic: emotional dependency. The novel is focused on the awful mistake to marry a manipulative man to escape loneliness. Read my book review here.
Both of these stories have remained imprinted in my heart. I always reward only the books I remember over and over after reading.
Indeed, they are must-read fiction books. Even if they have been set in two different ages, the background is always current and compelling. These two writers depicted two female heroines in the search of justice and freedom. Plot and writing style are as outstanding as the emotions that these novels raised in readers.
For these reasons, in my view, they are the best novels of 2019.
